Hallaton Castle 2022
Hallaton Castle has been described as the finest motte and bailey castle in Leicestershire.
Built in the late 11th century what remains of Hallaton castle today are the proud protrusions of ditched motte and adjoining bailey.
Although the site has no public access, it is visible a short walk along the Goadby Road running west from the village. Read more….

The museum has a large archive of photographs, many of which were taken by famous Hallaton resident, Fred Hawke, who was the village postmaster for many years. With the advent of digital photography, printed photographs are becoming a rarity, and the museum committee wanted to play its part in not just representing the village’s past history, but in recording its current history.
HIDDEN HISTORIES
2018
Entitled ‘Hidden Histories’, the landmark exhibition revealed unexpected tales of witches, windmills and the infamous Mrs Whigham, founder of the museum back in 1978.
Hallaton Museum’s 2018 exhibition organisers worked closely with surrounding villages to unearth their most tantalising tales.

HALLATON IN THE GREAT WAR ~ TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED
2016
To commemorate the centenary of the Great War it was decided to write the biographies of all those connected with Hallaton who served in that conflict.
Such a diversity of experiences, from writing these stories, of so many different theatres of the war that it was decided to mount this major exhibition to show some of the less well known but equally fascinating aspects of that terrible conflict, which engulfed every village and town in the land.

This exhibtion took an intriguing look back into the village of the 19th century, when most goods and services were sourced locally. The exhibition focussed on the remarkable people, buildings and trades that once filled the village as we glimpsed into the history of Hallaton’s flourishing community
